Johansson was born in New York, New York. Her father, Karsten Johansson, was born in Denmark; her mother, Melanie Sloan, comes from a Bronx-bred Jewish American family, although Scarlett was not raised in any religion and is an atheist. Johansson's maternal ancestors originally came from Poland. The granddaughter of writer Ejner Johansson and the sibling of actors Vanessa Johansson and Hunter Johansson, she graduated from The Professional Children's School in Manhattan in 2002. |

She is a former lawyer and prosecutor. She earned her B.A. at American University and got her Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from the University of Houston.
Prior to joining the cast of The View, she was a correspondent and the chief legal analyst on Inside Edition, where she covered the O. J. Simpson murder trial and was the only one to interview him during his civil trial. |
